Frugal Scrapping: How to Remove the Acid From Newspaper Clippings

This is my first Frugal Scrapping Tip.

I am posting this here because so many people ask how to do it and Archival Mist is so stinking expensive and has CFC's in it which of course are bad for the enviroment.

You need:

13x9" baking pan
water to cover bottom of pan and up about an inch
1 or 2 TBSP of Milk of Magnesia

Mix together.

Lay your clipping in the mixture. Make sure its completely wet. Carefully pull it out and let the liguid drip off for a couple of seconds. Lie flat to dry on an old towel or a couple of paper towels.

This will removed all acid from the clippings and often times the yellowing too. Now your clipping will last just as a piece of cardstock. It is now preserved and wont deteriorate.

I've done this with newspapers that I had for years, they were yellowed and looking really bad. I still have these clippings and sometiems whole pages of the newspaper preserved and looking wonderful. They are no longer falling apart and yellowing.

*Your used mixture can be saved in a sealed container for later use if you are particularly frugal.
