POTD 42/365 My Little Wubie's Princess Cake

My little Wubie wanted a Princess birthday cake. So, since it's what she wanted I had to do it. I have never done one of these hideous doll cakes and swore I never would. But what's a Nennie to do, when her little Wubie asks for one? I couldn't disappoint her.

I have no idea where any of my cake decorating tools are. I had nothing to use for flowers or borders or even spreading, so it's even worse than I thought it would be. But she's going to love it. It's all pink and sparkly and princessy, just the way she wanted it.

POTD 39/365 Fairy Wings

My little Wubie had a birthday party to go to today. Her two best 'buddies' Victoria and Jessica are having a combined birthday this year. Since they're sisters and their birthdays are so close, a combined party is easier.

MD and I went out Friday and Saturday night to get the supplies we needed to make fairy wings for their birthday presents. It took two trips to get everything we needed.

We got up early this morning and spent three and a half hours working on these wings. Both pairs turned out so cute, though the adhesive I used to attach the little rhinestones wasn't quite dry when it was time to leave for the party. MD had to just set the wings on her seats and let them dry until it's present time, then she'll have to run out to her car and put them in the gifts bags. We didn't have any boxes big enough for them.

The girls loved their wings and will be wearing them to Disneyland this week.

Another little project and some happy news :)

I bought an oak recipe box last spring to make an address box for my parents. See, remember those padded photo albums of the 80's that everyone made? Well, I made my mom a padded address book 25 Christmases ago. That thing is still in the drawer in my parents kitchen next to the phone. It has seen better days. The pages are falling out of it, theyve been all crossed out and erased etc. I dont even know of there are any blank spots left to write. So, it's time for a new address something, since my mom doesn't know how to use a computer and they don't even have one in the house to store addresses on.

I love how this turned out. Not too fancy, cause mom and dad wouldn't like it if it were. I use Creative Imaginations paper for it and it will look great in their house.

This is another angle, just so the sides show

This is the inside. I put some alphabet dividers and 200 4x6 cards that were trimmed to 3.5x6. I used a wonderful new trimmer form Fiskars that cut all of the cards in 4 cuts and perfectly straight.

On another note, this weekend was full of surprises.
MD and I have been looking at kitties since Molly died. Mikey hasn't been the same and our big kitty Gonzo has been depressed and trying to get Mary to play with him. At 14 she's too old and has no intrest in anything excpet snuggling and sleeping on top of the computer monitor.
Hopefully I can post photos of our newest family members tomorrow if the'll let me take a good photo.

Just a little project to share

Just wanted to share this project Ive been working on for a week or so. It was alot harder to dig through my papers and find just the right ones to use than I thought it would be. I like how it turned out.

I decided to add a couple of brads to the tag. I took the frame apart and put the brads on and it looks much mroe finished now. It was missing something. Now, off to wrap it and send it away.

Just a Little Project

So, I had been waiting and waiting to make an altered composition book, or several. I actually did one a long time ago as a make and take, but that was different. And, I did another one to use as my skecth book but that was different too. I wanted to make one as a gift, this was where I got stuck, not with who it was going to be for, not with what I would use, but...I had ideas, lots of them. Maybe too many and that was then problem, I don't know. See, I have at least a dozen compostition books waiting to be altered, but I always feel like...what if it doesnt turn out good and I end up having to throw it away because i stinks so bad. (Ya, as you can see I have some self esteem issues:P) I finally pulled out my stuff and got to work. I made this:

as you can see it's a Travelogue. This is the cover and this:

is the inside. I was going for a vintagey feel, kind of outdoorsy and campy, you know, but usable, not foofy. I made this one for my sister and brother in law. They moved to Montana last Easter and go on hikes and explore with the kiddos all the time. I was thinking it would be neat to record what they saw and when. I don't know if thye'll even use it, but I hope so.

Show and Tell :) A Pretty Little Lavender Frame

I got an order for a lavender frame. I'm told it's for a Baby Shower and I love how it turned out and can't wait to see the reaction of the person that ordered it. It should be picked up in about 30 minutes.

I really enjoy making these frames, the only problem is, I never make one for myself. I'm not sure why, maybe because it takes so long to do, so really the inly time I sit down to do one is when I have one ordered or when I need one for a gift. Each button and every single bead is put on one at a time. I haven't found a way to do it any differently and have it turn out the way I want. Therefore, I spend a good 4 or 5 hours on each frame. That's just the labor part. If I have to shop for supplies then it's even longer. It kind of makes me sad every time I see one go. I like them all and would have the all in a collection on a table if I could.

This is my beautiful assistant. Her name is Molly and she's a Manx, which means she has no tail. She spends alot of time helping me out by sniffing the buttons and beads and watching to make sure I don't accidentally place a bead where it doesn't belong. She especially enjoys digging through the jars or bowls of buttons. I think she likes the sound when they fall onto the table and the attention she gets when I tell her to stop.

I thought I was going to have the day to myself. I had big plans. I was going to try to sit down and actually make myself a frame. Everyone had plans. Kirt and Mikey were going to head to Disneyland early this morning, Mila was going to spend time with her mommy friends with no babies or toddlers and Gracie is at the river with her Daddy. Things didn't exactly work out as planned. Since the time changed last night, Kirt and Mikey decided not to go to Disneyland because they were tired, Mila will spend some time with her friends but not the day, just a few hours this afternoon and Gracie IS at the river. So instead of having the house to myself with time to create alone, I have everybody here. Don't get me wrong, I love having my family around, but sometimes I like some time to just create quietly. Now, we're heading to Costco, I suppose I'll have to make a frame for myself another day.
