Holy cow, it happend again! I heard that funny sound when I flushed the toilet this morning. It's kind of a gurgling. I told Kirt right away. He's been doubting the "sound theory" I have. I knew what was happening and told him so. The plumbing is backing up...anytime...TODAY! I was right, it happened a couple of hours later.
This might seem like a little inconvenience to some, but here in our home it's huge! You see we have this giant and I mean gigantic, humongous, ginormous, Camphor tree in our front yard. Its right on top of our sewer line. So we have tree roots in our line...often. At least when we pull the roots out from the mainline or from the pipe under the toilet, they smell really good. It could be totally stinky, but not here at our house. I should look at the bright side and think we're lucky to not have stink. Nope, don't really. Our lines back up several times a year because of that tree. If I didn't love the tree so much it would've been gone a long time ago. It is the only thing I love about our house right now. It's truly beautiful.
Last summer Kirt dug up our front yard and replaced a huge section of the main line. We took showers in the hose in the backyard most of the summer and into the early fall. It really wasn't too unpleasant because the weather was so warm. But, standing outside in the cold at 5am isn't so nice. Kirt showers then and it's a little chilly. Not so much the air temp. but the water temp from the hose. Brrrrr.
I guess we're on hose showers again for a while. Hopefully the pipes can get dug up this week and replaced. We'll probably just rent a 100' snake to try to unclog the line until the digging starts. if we can temporarily unclog the pipes with the snake at leats we'fd be able to shower and do laundry in the house. I was in the middle of a load of laundry when the shower filled with sewage. Blechhh!
The thing is, when that 100' snake runs through clear and it's actually out in the middle of the street with no clog; which has happened before, I have issues with that. Once it's out of our yard and into the middle of the street it's city property and therefore their responability. Funny thing is...my neighbor is going through the same thing and actually called the city. They said they'd send out surveyors to check his lines and if it was the city's problem they'd take care of it. Why did this never happen for us? I'm hope they find it's out in the middle of the street, they dig up our street and replace the entire thing. That wouldn't take care of the problem with our tree, but at leats it would take care of the clogs we get from the street.
